HIPAA compliance isn't easy to implement and maintain even in normal circumstances. The COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in federal waivers, "enforcement discretion," and other temporary measures that have further muddied the waters. This course is clear. It walks through what has changed in the past few months and why, with an emphasis on positioning your practice for what comes next when the pandemic ends.
The enforcement of certain federal rules has been relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic. This course looks at these federal changes, with an eye on how they impact private practitioners. Specific attention is given to HIPAA enforcement discretion for telehealth, Medicare waivers to limit geographic barriers to care, and the delayed implementation of the federal Open Note standard. Given the rapid changes in technology use among health and wellness practitioners, the Privacy Audit required by HIPAA takes on added importance. This course also includes key reminders related to HIPAA compliance.
